MÉXICO._ Mexican Army personnel in Culiacan, Sinaloa, stopped Noel
Salgueiro Nevarez, nicknamed 'El Flaco Salgueiro', a lieutenant of
Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman Loera and responsible for drug trafficking
in Chihuahua.
In presenting the detainee, the director of Social Communication of
the Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA), Ricardo Trevilla Trejo
noted that this subject was considered the founder and leader of 'New
People' (Gente Nueva), which was started in Veracruz, extending its
activities to Guerrero, Durango, Sinaloa and Chihuahua.
He explained that with this capture the leadership structure and
operational capacity of Chihuahua operations of the Pacific cartel,
headed by "El Chapo" Guzman, affecting its operation including
national and international level.
Trejo said that Trevilla Salgueiro Nevarez increased violence,
especially in Ciudad Juarez, disputing this space with the Carrillo
Fuentes organization and their group of assassins called 'The
Line' ( La Linea ) while under his control were different gangs,
such as 'Artists Murderers' and 'The Mexicles'. (Artistas Asesinos &
Los Mexicles)
On the premises of the Department of Defense reported that the
Salgueiro Nevarez catch was made in a precision operation, so it was
not necessary to make any shot and was premised on at all times to
safeguard the integrity of civilians, military personnel and the life
of the detainee.
Trevilla Trejo noted that this subject began to break the law in 1995
in the mountains of Chihuahua, becoming an important player for the
organization of Guzman Loera, by controlling the production of
marijuana in the area, introducing up to 15 tons of marijuana and two
tons of of cocaine a month into the United States.
He stated that this involvement occurs capture comparable to that
caused by the fall of Ignacio "Nacho" Coronel, since both, in their
respective areas, controlling the activity of drug trafficking in all
its aspects.
In turn, the deputy managing director of Information Office of the
Attorney General's Office (PGR), Octavio Campos Ortiz, said Salgueiro
Nevarez has existing arrest warrants in connection with preliminary
investigations set forth by the federal prosecutor to federal judges.
In this regard, said the probable crime by organized crime and
health, PGR offered a reward of up to three million pesos for those
who provide information leading to the capture of Salgueiro Nevarez.
He noted that this subject will be made available to the Office of
the Deputy Attorney Specialized Investigation of Organized Crime
(OFDI), so that in the next few hours will determine his legal status.
