Cartel "El Chapo" sought in EU anti-aircraft missiles

The cartel of Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman sought to stock up on U.S.
military weapons and anti-aircraft missiles capable of bringing down
aircraft at a distance greater than 4 thousand 800 meters.
Two Mexican David Diaz and Emilia Sosa Palomino Robles, from Sinaloa
and Sonora, respectively, pleaded guilty in a court in Phoenix to
participate in a conspiracy to exchange drugs and money for this type
of equipment.
The two countrymen negotiated with undercover U.S. Drug Enforcement
Agency (DEA, for its acronym in English) to deliver a quantity of
methamphetamine and cash to get assault weapons and a missile of the
type FIM-92 Stinger, designed to shoot down aircraft.
Diaz, 26, and Palomino, 42, were arrested in 2010 after an operation
called "White Gun", as reported by News 4 chain of Arizona, a
subsidiary of NBC.
According to reports from the DEA, in 2009 Díaz Sosa began operations
to acquire high-powered military artillery for the Sinaloa cartel,
for which arranged the delivery of 4.5 pounds of methamphetamine in a
package that was delivered by Palomino Robles to undercover agents.
Over the next three months, the young Sinaloan continued negotiating
with the officers of the DEA to purchase the following weapons: a
rifle Drangon FIRE tank that can penetrate armored vehicles and
bunkers, two AT-4 anti-tank grenade launchers with a capacity to
neutralize fortified installations; M72 LAW also a able to destroy
cars with heavy armor, the Stinger antiaircraft missile, two grenade
launchers by Def Tech, M-60 machine gun, a dozen 40mm grenades and
three boxes of hand grenades.
According to the DEA, in February last year Díaz Sosa went with one
of his accomplices to an underground cellar guarded by the Bureau of
Alcohol, Snuff and Firearms (ATF, for its acronym in English) to
finish the exchange of weapons for drugs and cash. At that time they
were arrested by federal agents, they had in their hands the
methamphetamine.
The same day, Palomino Robles was arrested in possession of $ 139,000.

El cártel del Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán buscaba surtirse en Estados
Unidos de armamento militar y misiles antiaéreos, capaces de derribar
aeronaves a una distancia mayor de 4 mil 800 metros.
Dos mexicanos de nombre David Díaz Sosa y Emilia Palomino Robles,
originarios de Sinaloa y Sonora, respectivamente, se declararon
culpables en una corte de Phoenix de participar en una conspiración
para intercambiar drogas y dinero a cambio de este tipo de equipo.
Los dos connacionales negociaban con agentes encubiertos de la
Agencia Antidrogas estadounidense (DEA, por sus siglas en inglés)
entregar una cantidad de metanfetaminas y dinero en efectivo para
obtener armas de asalto y un misil del tipo FIM-92 Stinger, diseñado
para derribar aviones.
Díaz, de 26 años, y Palomino, de 42, fueron detenidos en 2010 luego
de una operación denominada "White Gun", según reportó la cadena News
4 de Arizona, filial de la NBC.
De acuerdo con reportes de la DEA, en 2009 Díaz Sosa comenzó a operar
para adquirir artillería militar de alto poder para el cártel de
Sinaloa, para lo que arregló la entrega de 4.5 libras de
metanfetaminas a manera de enganche, paquete que fue entregado por
Palomino Robles a los agentes encubiertos.
Durante los siguientes tres meses, el joven sinaloense continuó
negociando con los oficiales de la DEA la compra de las siguientes
armas: un fusil Drangon FIRE antitanques que puede penetrar vehículos
blindados y búnkers; dos lanzagranadas AT-4 antitanques con capacidad
para neutralizar instalaciones fortificadas; un M72 LAW también con
posibilidades de destruir autos con fuerte blindaje; el misil
antiaéreo Stinger; dos lanzagranadas Def Tech; una ametralladora
M-60; una docena de granadas de 40mm y tres cajas de granadas de mano.
De acuerdo con la DEA, en febrero del año pasado Díaz Sosa acudió con
uno de sus cómplices a una bodega clandestina vigilada por la Oficina
para el Control del Alcohol, Tabaco y Armas de Fuego (ATF, por sus
siglas en inglés), para finalizar el intercambio de las armas por
droga y dinero en efectivo. En ese momento fueron arrestados por los
agentes federales en poder de metanfetaminas.
El mismo día, Palomino Robles fue arrestada en posesión de 139 mil
dólares.
Los mexicanos, que ya se declararon culpables, serán sentenciados en
este año
