The U.S. government officially today its decision to reduce the
number of troops in the National Guard on the border with Mexico, and
in turn reinforce the actions of aerial surveillance in the boundary
line.

The Departments of Homeland Security (DHS) and Defense (DoD)
announced that they will maintain their alliance on the southern
border with the addition to civilian personnel as of January and from
March spacecraft reconnaissance and air mobility support to Border
Patrol .

"The deployment of these new DoD assets, along with DHS staff in the
field, will allow the DoD to reduce the number of National Guard
troops on the southwest border, while strengthening border security,"
they said.

Currently 1,200 members of the National Guard are stationed at the
border and has contributed to the arrest of more than 25,000 people
since last year. The agencies did not specify the new total effective.

According to legislative estimates, the 25,514 apprehensions in which
National Guard has participated since its submission to the border in
July 2010 there have been at a cost of $ 160 million or $ 6,271 per
detainee.

The reduction in the quota of the National Guard on the border had
been brought forward last week to lawmakers in the House of
Representatives, which drew criticism for Texas Gov. Rick Perry and
presidential candidate.

But DHS said the new phase of the mission of the National Guard

reconnaissance, air transport also to improve the responsiveness of
the Border Patrol.

Under the new strategy, the National Guard will support the DHS
moving its fixed-site monitoring from mobile units to suit every
sector of the border, according to the agencies improve the ability
to detect illicit activities in the area.

Only in fiscal 2011, the Border Patrol arrested 340,252 people, an
indicator of the decreased flow of undocumented immigrants to the
United States and a reduction of 53% over fiscal 2008.

Since 2004, the number of Border Patrol agents doubled to a new
historic ceiling 21,444.

Congress passed the weekend $ 775 million for fencing, infrastructure
and border detection technology, as well as keep alive a program that
allows police act as immigration agents.

The U.S. legislation also authorized a budget of 11 thousand 700
million dollars for the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (CBP)
in fiscal year 2012, an increase of $ 362 million in relation to the
previous year.

The resources will support the increase in 21,370 Border Patrol
agents and 21,186 customs, the most in the history of the institution.
