PHOENIX (AP) -
A federal judge has reset the trial for 20 people charged with taking
part in a ring that bought more than 700 guns to be smuggled into
Mexico for use by a drug cartel.
U.S. District Judge James Teilborg moved the trial to Sept. 25.
Records show that two rifles purchased by a man accused of buying
guns for the ring were recovered at the scene of a December shootout
near the Arizona-Mexico border that left a Border Patrol agent dead.
Prosecutors say the ring bought more than 700 guns to be smuggled
into Mexico for use by a drug cartel.
Authorities say the ring is believed to have supplied the Sinaloa
cartel with guns.
The 20 defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
