Mexico City (proceso.com.mx) .- In a shelter that the capital government was just beginning to install in the Jesús Martínez "Palillo" stadium in the Ciudad Deportiva,
Iztacalco's mayor, the first hours of the sun began arriving on Sunday members of the Central American exodus.

It is expected that by Wednesday 7 there will be about three thousand people and stay at least a week.

In a conference outside the stadium, the ombudsperson Nashieli Ramírez, r
eported that up to 1:00 pm this Sunday had counted some 470 people, including 17 children, -70% men and 30% women-.

However, he calculated that between now and tomorrow another thousand could arrive, who left in the morning from Puebla.
By Wednesday, they would add between three thousand and five thousand, for those who left Córdoba, Veracruz, and those who will leave Huixtla, Chiapas.

The official informed that in the operation of the "humanitarian bridge" coordinated by the CDHDF, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR),
the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), and other social organizations participate.
They will help provide the necessary legal information for migrants to decide if they request asylum or refuge,
or if they continue on their way to the US.

"We are ready to serve them the days they stay," said Ramírez Hernández, who coincided with the government secretary, Guillermo Orozco,
who said that the local government is guaranteed humanitarian aid consisting of blankets, mats, water, food, in addition to medical services
and even psychological, "for as long as necessary."

Although he did not want to give an estimate of the budget that will be invested in the operation,
the official commented that the stadium has the capacity to serve up to five thousand people a day.
He added that within those facilities there are only 20 policemen, while outside there will be an operative of patrols "to guarantee security in the environment".

The president of the CDHDF, Nashieli Ramírez, clarified that, under the standards of human rights, the shelter will be an "open space and free transit",
although there will be security measures for migrants. When asked if the "humanitarian bridge" will include bus help for migrants to follow their path,
he ruled out the possibility: "We are not going to address any mobility issue."

Rosa Icela Rodríguez, next secretary of the Government in the next administration, said that they are carrying out
"accompaniment" to the humanitarian emergency with the capital authorities.
He highlighted the "hospitable" character of Mexico City and emphasized that during their stay, migrants traveling as a family should remain united.
The next official said that in the morning, the elected head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, met with the head of government,
José Ramón Amieva, and the ombudsman, to discuss the details of the operation.

Officials called the capital to go to the collection centers installed in the 16 municipalities and the Zócalo
to carry mainly shoes, clothing and socks for children, as well as jackets of all sizes, because migrants, from hot areas ,
they wear light clothes that will be insufficient to withstand the low temperatures in the city and during their advance towards the north of the country.

In the coordination of the "humanitarian bridge" the federal government participates with the work of "accompaniment" and security services,
explained to proceso.com.mx, Manuel Cuevas, subdelegate of the federal delegation in Mexico City of the Secretariat of Governance (Segob).

In an interview, he denied that federal police or personnel of the National Institute of Migration (INM) were in the shelter.
"We only do an accompaniment, the head of the organization has the Human Rights Commission" of the city.

Half hostel

With symptoms of flu and cough, but above all, the fatigue of his walk since October 12,
when they left Honduras and other countries in Central America to the United States,
men and women accompanied by children and teenagers arrived at the stadium "Palillo" Martinez
and received blankets, bread and hot drinks as part of the first coordinated support between the CDHDF and the government of CDMX.

The first arrived "from aventón" in vans and private cars from the first hours of this Sunday.
However, they had to lie down to rest in the concrete stadium stands, because the installation of the tents with mattresses to cover them from the cold and rain
and which, according to the authorities have capacity for 800 people, was not yet completed.

In fact, during the tour of the authorities with the press, it was observed that inside the tent there were not even platforms,
just some cardboard and wood that avoided walking on the grass and the mud caused by the rain.

This delay occurred, despite the fact that, since October 24, the capital authorities, led by the CDHDF, announced the completion of the "humanitarian bridge"
and predicted that the first migrants could start arriving in the city from Friday 2.

In the shelter, the Secretariat of Social Development (Sedeso) installed a community dining room, but the first food they gave was atole and tamales.
Towards 11:00 hours, staffers arrived in a van with boxes of sweet bread that they began to distribute on their own,
until the staff of that unit asked them to take the food to the dining room.

The DIF placed a couple of tables with playful activities for the children and brought clowns to give them some joy,
after the difficult days that have passed along the way.
The Secretariat for Rural Development and Equity for Communities (Sederec) offered assistance in coordinating with social organizations
that accompany the exodus to have communication with the consulate of the countries that originated the migrants.
In addition, he brought shamans or traditional doctors to offer them spiritual help.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health installed three small tents to make revisions to the migrants that required it and,
with this, to give them the necessary medications.

In the afternoon, around 400 migrants arrived on their own at the Casa del Peregrino,
in the mayor's office of Gustavo A. Madero, and were transferred in buses from the local government to the Ciudad Deportiva shelter.
