Emphasizes the importance of keeping Mexican families united


Luis Videgaray, head of the Foreign Ministry, said that in his meeting with White House staff he made it clear that "the decisions of who enters Mexico, are taken by Mexico and only Mexico", due to the intention of the US government To deport our country to citizens of other nationalities.

"We have expressed it clearly and directly to the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Homeland Security and today we have clearly reiterated it to the staff of the White House," he said.


Following the meeting with White House officials, Videgaray Caso emphasized the importance of maintaining the unity of Mexican families as a result of any deportation process by US immigration authorities.

He exhorted the Americans to the concern of the Mexican government to ensure that, in the exercise of their functions, the US federal authorities fully respect the human rights of our nationals, regardless of their immigration status, as well as respect for due process established by American legal framework and international instruments.

Videgaray Caso held working meetings with National Security Adviser Herbert Raymond McMaster in Washington; With senior adviser to President Donald Trump, Jared Kuschner; And the director of the White House National Economic Council, Gary Cohn.

On the other hand, Secretary Videgaray highlighted the importance of the initiative to work on the development of Central America as a way to address the migration phenomenon in a comprehensive manner.

Following the launch of the Defender's Centers ( Mexican consulates ) during his stay in New York last week, the Foreign Minister held a working meeting with staff from the Mexican Embassy in Washington to oversee the progress and actions implemented by the consular network The protection of our nationals.

Also present in the US capital, the Secretary of Economy, Ildefonso Guajardo, met with the Secretary of Commerce of the United States, Wilbur Ross.

With these meetings, the high-level dialogue and communication that was agreed upon between Presidents Enrique Peña Nieto and Donald Trump in their last telephone conversation on January 27 was continued and strengthened, the Mexican Foreign Ministry reported.
