TUCSON, Ariz. -- One of the five suspects in the murder of a U.S. Border Patrol agent whose death exposed a botched federal gun sting has asked a court for more time before his trial in Tucson begins.

Jesus Leonel Sanchez-Meza, also known as Lionel Portillo-Meza, was extradited from Mexico last month. His trial was to take place July 29. But Sanchez-Meza has asked for more time to consider a possible plea agreement.

Sanchez-Meza was one of five men accused in the murder of border agent Brian Terry in 2010 in the southern Arizona desert. The killing exposed a botched Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives sting in which agents allowed criminals to buy thousands of guns and then lost track of many. One of those was found at the scene of Terry's death.
