Sonora is among the states that recorded a higher number of patients. In the General Hospital in this city they have registered two cases in treatment, one discharged and three surveillance.

The coordinator of the Department of microbacteriosis General Hospital, Asalia Gameros said that leprosy is a disease that occurs in the skin in the form of colorless or red spots that are numb when touched or nodules do not give pain, or itching. They can go in one or more parts of the body and are caused by a microbe.

Sonora is one of the states where the disease persists, there are currently nine municipalities registered the highest number of cases: Hermosillo, Cajeme Guaymas, Agua Prieta, San Ignacio Río Muerto, Plutarco Elias Calles, Navojoa, Huatabampo and Etchojoa.

"In this city there are few cases; currently two are in treatment, three people are under surveillance and one has already been discharged, "said Gameros.

The presence of leprosy be suspected when the patient presents skin lesions on one or multiple hypopigmented spots, reddish or coppery; infiltrated plaques, diffuse infiltration or nodules.

The coordinator of the Department of microbacteriosis said to make the diagnosis of Health staff review the patient's skin, see if there are these spots or beads and if they are dormant. To search for the microbe sample from earlobe is taken, a fraction of the skin patch or nodule is obtained and sent to the laboratory.
He stressed that leprosy is curable if the patient takes the medication for as long as directed by their doctor. During treatment should go to the doctor every month for review.

If a leprosy patient does not take treatment they can infect their families and loved ones as it is transmitted by breathing, talking or sneezing.

The most serious is that if a patient stains and / or untreated nodules appear in other parts of the body, also increase the numb parts and can primarily affect the eyes, hands and feet.
If wounds, ulcers and deformities occur, will prevent normal daily activities.

Azalia Gameros explained that the treatment for leprosy is free. If a person has faded, red or blotchy skin nodules, have to go to medical review for care.
