Nancy Pelosi wonders why there 'aren't uprisings' across nation: 'Maybe there will be'

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi told reporters on Thursday that she is confused why Americans aren't "uprising" against the Trump administration over conditions on the border with Mexico.

The California Democrat's weekly press briefing veered into explosive territory when the subject of illegal immigration came up. Mrs. Pelosi said there may be "uprisings" over children who are separated at the U.S. southern border when asylum seekers decide not to arrive at a proper checkpoint.

"I just don't even know why there aren't uprisings all over the country, and maybe there will be when people realize that this is a policy that they defend," she said. "It's a horrible thing, and I don't see any prospect for legislation here."

The Republican Party immediately blasted her "extreme rhetoric" in a video uploaded to its "War Room" YouTube channel.
Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar told lawmakers on June 6 that authorities are not arbitrarily splitting up families who seek asylum in the U.S.

End

Comment: but not a word about working on the problems south of the border.
Some of which drive people north.
The Church has been there for a few hundred years now. Time to get with it?

Bishop Edward J. Weisenburger will succeed Bishop Gerald Kicanas as the new head of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tucson.

TUCSON (KVOA) -- Tucson Bishop Edward Weisenburger raised the possibility of implementing canonical penalties for Catholics involved in implementing the Trump administration's asylum rules.

Canonical penalties could range from withholding the sacrament of communion to excommunication.

Bishop Weisenburger and other leading U.S. Catholic bishops escalated their criticism of the Trump administration's immigration policies, calling the separation of mothers and children at the border "immoral."

The comments came as the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, the organizing body of bishops, gathered at their biannual meeting on Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Bishop Weisenburger stated the following:
"In light of the canonical penalties that are there for life issues, I'm simply asking the question if perhaps, our canonical affairs committee could give recommendations, at least to those of us who are border bishops, on the possibility of canonical penalties for Catholics who are involved in this. I think the time is there for prophetic statement. I also think, even though what I'm saying could be a little risky or dangerous, I think it's important to point out the canonical penalties are there in place to heal. First and foremost, to heal. and therefore, for the salvation of these people's souls, maybe it's time for us to look at canonical penalties."

More than 50 percent of U.S. Catholics under the age of 30 are Latinos.
