Among the group of migrants "caravaneros" who continue their journey to the state of Puebla, hoping to reach the border with the United States, there is the conviction that although some have decided to stay in Mexico, others will maintain their plans to request asylum in the American Union. (USA )

In other words, the caravan of migrants who have arrived from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala does not disappear, it only transforms:

"After the meeting we are going to have in Puebla (between April 5 and 9), where there will be legal advice from experts who have traveled from the US, there will be a readjustment in the number of people who would continue in order to reach the northern border, "Rodrigo Abeja, of the organization Pueblos Sin fronteras, told La Jornada.

After this meeting in Puebla, the organizers estimate that the large contingent that has gathered up to 1,500 people will be dispersed and reduced to a squad of between 200 and 300 people (mostly women and children) who will seek asylum in the US.

Alex Mensing, one of the organizers in the US, recognizes that migrants will have to make a decision about whether they are willing to travel to the border to apply for asylum:

"Last year, from a group of approximately 200 people, to date three have obtained asylum. The majority is still waiting, "added Mensing.
"Precisely, in Puebla, people will have to assess the possibilities of their case being successful. There they will be able to listen to the legal advisors and to know at first hand the testimonies of people who are in the detention centers waiting for a positive answer.
"After this meeting with the legal team, I guess some will decide to go ahead and others will stay to seek refuge in Mexico," said Abeja.
"The contingent that protects Pueblo Sin Fronteras ( People without borders ) will continue until they get to the border," he said.

In the middle of a series of contradictory pronouncements, about the dissolution of the caravan or the change of objectives and itinerary, one thing is certain. The tumult of President Donald Trump had the desired effect among Mexican authorities who, despite the evidence against, assure that they never acted under US pressure to stop the contingent of migrants from Central America:

In a communiqué from the Secretariats of the Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was stressed at the last minute on Tuesday that the Mexican government "was not subject to pressure" and added that, after negotiations with the members of the caravan, an approximate total of 465 migrants had applied for exit jobs (transit visas) and another 168 would probably get some type of visa to stay in Mexico.

"What is certain is that, after the storm of tweets by Mr. Trump, there was a change of attitude of the Mexican authority. There was a change in the dynamics of the negotiations, "Rodrigo Abeja said in his explanation of the forced adjustment in the number and program of the caravan of migrants from Central America, one of the largest in recent history.

End.

Comment: Perhaps no problem if they stay south of the "wall"? There will be no mention of the Mexican Army presence on the border for years, including today.

Military officers are not trained to deal with migrants: Francisco Loureiro

Nogales, Son

The possible militarization of the border between the United States and Mexico will have serious repercussions for migrants who aspire to cross into the neighboring country, since the military is not trained to treat them with respect and dignity, in case they are captured.

That was the opinion of Francisco Loureiro, founder and owner of the Juan Bosco Migrant Shelter in Nogales, following the recent announcement by US President Donald Trump to send troops to the border area. "I see it and I feel very bad, because the military is not trained in that sense, to serve the migrants, here I do believe that we would have a serious problem, after the statements that President Trump has made, he is wrong in that" , He said.

He said that the countries are not at war to militarize the border, it is not as dangerous as it is pointed out and, above all, because the migrants cross to find dignify their lives and find better jobs, not to be attacked by the armed forces.

Loureiro said the US government is confused with the purpose of his army, which is not for humanitarian work,
but to make war and defend its territory in cases of wars or invasions
that cause damage.

He recalled years ago when the government of Barack Obama sent the National Guard to guard the border with Mexico, where the migrants were treated inhumanely and violated their human rights.

"It was a very drastic deal, both for those who managed to capture and I managed to talk with them, treated them worse than criminals or animals and if they come with that same idea, the best is caused a problem, because they are not trained to this type of migratory situations, "he said.

The nogalense philanthropist fears that, in addition, with these anti-immigrant policies by the US federal government, paramilitary groups that seek to monitor the armed borders and for the purpose of migrant capture will be reactivated.
