Investigate death of border agent

Dozens of agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and
the Arizona police today began investigating the murder of a Border
Patrol agent, shot to death while on a patrol in Arizona.
The officer, who was on horseback near a border area with Mexico, was
killed and another had minor injuries when attacked with bullets near
the community of Bisbee.
The Border Patrol said the attack occurred around 1:50 pm local time
(09:50 GMT) near State Highway 80, about 10 miles from Bisbee.
Officers patrolled an area that is used as a corridor for the
smuggling of aliens, said George McCubbin, president of the National
Council of the Border Patrol, the union representing about 17,000
agents of that agency.
A third officer was patrolling the area but was not injured during
the shooting, said Carol Capas, spokeswoman for the Department of the
Cochise County Sheriff.
The injured officer was airlifted to Medical Center of the University
of Arizona in Tucson. A hospital spokesman said that the he has
bullet injuries, which are not considered serious in the ankle and
buttocks.
The Border Patrol said that the names of targeted agents will remain
in reserve until relatives have been notified.
Capas said dozens of state and federal agents were sent to the scene
in an investigation being conducted by the FBI and the office of
sheriff of Cochise County.
Assaulted agents were assigned to the station Brian Terry Border
Patrol in Naco, Arizona.
The station was baptized two weeks ago with the name of agent Brian
Terry, the last to die in the course of their work to be assassinated
in December 2010 near Nogales, Arizona.

Two Border Patrol agents were injured last Thursday during an air and
ground pursuit of drug smugglers that ended with a sports car
crashing into a boulder near the clubhouse at the Kino Springs golf
course.
According to a Border Patrol spokesman, agents and officers from U.S.
Customs and Border Protection's Air and Marine department responded
to "a border incursion involving a vehicle attempting to smuggle
narcotics near Nogales."
The driver attempted to flee, but the vehicle "was subsequently
stopped north of the international boundary fence," presumably when
it hit the boulder.
The driver was arrested and an unspecified number of bundles of
marijuana were found in the car.
The Border Patrol did not describe the nature of the agents'
injuries or release the suspect's name.

A suspected drug dealer was shot by Border Patrol agents from a
helicopter flying over the area of Kino Springs, after trying to
flee in a vehicle after crashing into a vehicle carrying two federal
officials who were with minor injuries during the pursuit.
Antony Sheriff Estrada reported that it was the weekend when Border
Patrol officers allegedly detected a unit charged with narcotics,
which circulated in the Kino Springs area, east of Nogales, Arizona.
The officers ordered him to stop, but the dealer took flight to
Mexico, hitting the vehicle of the agents, which overturned resulting
in officers injured. A chase was joined by local police officers and
members of the Border Patrol, who flew over the area in a helicopter.
From the heights, federal agents conducted several shots, which
managed to injure the dealer, who was taken to a hospital for medical
attention.
Sheriff Estrada said the unit was actually loaded with marijuana, for
which was seized, it was not determined the exact amount
The authorities of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI for its
acronym in English) attracted the research, so they are responsible
for determining whether the officers were justified in the helicopter
gunned down the drug dealer, who is out of danger, as injury by
gunfire was minor.

Decenas de agentes de la Oficina Federal de Investigaciones (FBI) y
de la policía de Arizona iniciaron hoy la investigación del
homicidio de un agente de la Patrulla Fronteriza, acribillado a
balazos mientras realizaba un rondín en Arizona.
El agente, que vigilaba a caballo una zona de la frontera con México,
murió y otro más resultó con lesiones menores, al ser atacados a
balazos cerca de la comunidad de Bisbee.
La Patrulla Fronteriza informó que el ataque ocurrió alrededor de la
01:50 horas locales (09:50 GMT) cerca de la carretera estatal 80, a
unos 10 kilómetros de Bisbee.
Los agentes patrullaban un área utilizada como corredor para el
tráfico de indocumentados, precisó George McCubbin, presidente del
Concilio Nacional de la Patrulla Fronteriza, el sindicato que
representa a unos 17 mil agentes de esa corporación.
Un tercer agente estaba patrullando el área, pero resultó ileso
durante el tiroteo, dijo Carol Capas, vocera del Departamento del
Sheriff del Condado de Cochise.
El agente lesionado fue trasladado en helicóptero al Centro Médico
de la Universidad de Arizona en Tucson. Un vocero del hospital
informó que el policía presenta lesiones de bala, que no son de
consideración, en un tobillo y en los glúteos.
La Patrulla Fronteriza precisó que los nombres de los agentes
atacados se mantendrán en reserva hasta que los familiares hayan sido
notificados.
Capas dijo que decenas de agentes federales y estatales han sido
enviados al lugar de los hechos en una investigación que está siendo
dirigida por el FBI y la oficina del sheriff del condado de Cochise.
Los agentes agredidos estaban asignados a la estación de Brian Terry
de la Patrulla Fronteriza en Naco, Arizona.
La estación fue bautizada hace dos semanas con el nombre del agente
Brian Terry, el último en morir durante el desempeño de su trabajo
al ser asesinado en diciembre de 2010 cerca de Nogales, Arizona.

Un presunto narcotraficante fue baleado por agentes de la Patrulla
Fronteriza desde un helicóptero que sobrevolaba el área de Kino
Springs, luego de que al intentar huir chocó contra un vehículo en
el que viajaban dos oficiales federales, quienes resultaron con
lesiones menores durante la persecución.
El sheriff Marco Antonio Estrada informó que fue el fin de semana
cuando oficiales de la Border Patrol detectaron una unidad
presuntamente cargada con narcóticos, la cual circulaba por el área
de Kino Springs, al este de Nogales, Arizona.
Los oficiales le marcaron el alto, pero el traficante emprendió la
huida hacia México, impactando la unidad de los agentes, la cual se
volcó resultando lesionados los oficiales. A la persecución se
unieron agentes policiacos locales y más elementos de la Patrulla
Fronteriza, quienes sobrevolaron la zona en un helicóptero.
Desde las alturas, los agentes federales realizaron varios disparos,
los cuales lograron herir al traficante, quien fue trasladado a un
hospital para que recibiera atención médica.
El sheriff Estrada comentó que la unidad efectivamente iba cargada
con marihuana, por lo que fue asegurada junto con la droga, sin que
se determinara la cantidad exacta de enervante incautado.
Las autoridades del Buró Federal de Investigaciones (FBI por sus
siglas en inglés) atrajeron la investigación, por lo que se
encargarán de determinar si los oficiales del helicóptero tenían
justificación para disparar sus armas contra el narcotraficante,
quien se encuentra fuera de peligro, ya que la lesión por los
disparos fue menor.
