MS-13 gang member arrested near Lukeville

Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a MS-13 gang member west of Lukeville, on Friday.

Oscar Moreno-Mejia, a Honduran national, was one of six people arrested for illegally entering the United States, according to Customs and Border Protection.

During processing, agents learned Moreno-Mejia had previously had a criminal record in California and had previously been deported, according to a news release.

Records state Moreno-Mejia was convicted of distrusting (?) cocaine in San Francisco back in 2001. He was sentenced to four years in prison. Documents also indicate he later severed (?) three years in prison for grand theft auto in 2008.

Moreno-Mejia will remain in federal custody while he awaits prosecution.

COCHISE COUNTY, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
Border Patrol agents assigned to the Brian A. Terry Station arrested two Mexican nationals east of Naco on Friday evening, Feb. 2 for being in the United States illegally.

During processing, a records check identified Leonel Flores-Pacheco, 42, as being wanted in Hennepin County, Minneapolis, Minnesota, for rape and felony sexual misconduct.
Flores was processed for immigration violations and turned over to the Cochise County Sheriff's Office for extradition to Minnesota. The other Mexican national was processed for immigration violations.

All persons apprehended by the Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure illegal immigrants with criminal histories are positively identified.

Tucson woman arrested for 111 bricks of marijuana

A Tucson woman was arrested Friday evening, at the immigration checkpoint on State Route 80, near Tombstone.

Border Patrol agents from the Willcox Station conducted a secondary inspection on her vehicle. A canine alerted agents to an odor. They found 111 bricks of marijuana, weighing approximately 123 pounds.

The 29-year-old woman was traveling with her minor aged daughter.

She has been arrested for narcotics smuggling. The Department of Child Protective Services placed the child with a family member.

A Phoenix woman was arrested over the weekend after Border Patrol agents found more than 10 ounces of heroin hidden under her clothes, according to Customs and Border Protection.

It happened on Saturday at an immigration checkpoint on Interstate 19.
According to CBP, agents and a canine were conducting a secondary inspection search on the 29-year-old's Nissan Sentra.

Agents said that's when they found a brown bag of heroin hidden under the woman's clothing.
The drugs are estimated to be worth about $7,800, according to CBP.

The woman was arrested and faces smuggling charges. Her vehicle and heroin were seized.

THREE POINTS, Ariz. - Border Patrol agents have arrested a Tucson man for attempting to smuggle six people across the border. It happened Saturday near Three Points.

Agents stopped the Chevy Malibu that had two visible passengers and found five more people trying to hide in the back seat. The six passengers in the car were all illegal immigrants, five from Guatemala and one from Mexico.

The 25-year-old driver is facing six counts of human smuggling, and all of his passengers are facing prosecution for immigration violations. Border Patrol agents said the driver also had a loaded pistol hidden under the driver's seat.

Tohono O'odham police assisted Border Patrol with the arrest.
