TUCSON - An 18-year-old U.S. citizen was arrested at the I-19 immigration checkpoint after Border Patrol agents found nearly 60 pounds of methamphetamine in the teenager's Nissan Altima.

Agents conducted a secondary inspection after a Border Patrol canine alerted to an odor it was trained to detect.
Agents found 50 packages of meth worth more than $150,000 inside the vehicle.
The teenager was arrested for narcotics smuggling and agents seized the drugs and vehicle.

TUCSON, Ariz. –U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Arizona's Port of Nogales apprehended a 27-year-old Mexican man after he attempted to smuggle 42 pounds of cocaine into the U.S. from Mexico February 22.

Officers working at the Dennis DeConcini Crossing Thursday referred the man's 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer to secondary inspection where a CBP canine alerted to an odor it was trained to detect and imaging revealed anomalies in the vehicle. Officers removed 17 packages from the fuel tank, with an estimated street value of $ $475,650.00.

The man was arrested and the vehicle and drugs were seized. He has been turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.

The company Amphenol denys that the confiscation of four tons of marijuana had been in its facilities, as published last Saturday in our pages.

While the Association of Maquiladoras of Sonora (AMS) Index Nogales declined to comment or make statements about it, waiting for the same company where the discovery was made.

The person in charge of the association, Genaro Vecerra Álvarez, said that for this type of reactions it was preferable that they were made by the companies mentioned.
"I do not know where they get data to correct information in some media, we do not know if the four tons were in a maquiladora or where, or who are those four tons," said the director of the AMS. However, he expressed confidence that any industrial plant will make some public clarification in this regard.

As it is remembered, last Saturday it was announced that more than four tons of marijuana were confiscated by elements of the Mexican Army and agents of the Federal Police, inside a maquiladora located in the Nogales Industrial Park.

According to an official bulletin of the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), through the Commanders of the II Military Region and 45th Military Zone, it was announced that the military personnel in coordination with the Federal Police, through a citizen complaint located the drug inside a warehouse of a factory.

There were altogether 440 packages of a dry green grass with the characteristics of marijuana weighing approximately 4 tons with 279.60 kilograms, according to the official statement.
