Local man tries to cross border with loaded gun

A Douglas man was arrested Saturday after he tried to cross into Mexico carrying a loaded 40-caliber Smith and Wesson handgun with nine rounds of ammunition in the magazine and one round in the chamber.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Raul Hector Castro Port in Douglas arrested a 27-year-old Douglas man Saturday morning when he attempted to walk across the border into Mexico with a loaded firearm.

When a CBP officer monitoring southbound pedestrian traffic attempted to stop the man for questioning, the man tried to run across the border but was caught.

Officers then searched the man and discovered he was carrying a .40-caliber Smith and Wesson handgun with nine rounds of ammunition in the magazine and one round in the chamber.

Officers turned the man, who is not being identified, over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.

Operative coordinated by elements of the State Police of Public Security (PESP) and Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA) secured long arms known as the "goat horn" with more than 200 cartridges inside a stolen vehicle.

The events were recorded on Monday, April 17, in the Buenos Aires colony, where they located a vehicle with a robbery report in an apparent state of abandonment, within which were the firearms.

PESP and personnel of the Mexican Army carried out the inspection of the vehicle that had been reported robbery since May 7, 2016, and managed to secure a total of 3 rifles, a 9mm caliber handgun, 4 magazines and 201 cartridges.

With the security measures carried out, the seizure being available to the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic following the First Respondent National Protocol.
