Agents arrest 2, seize four AK-47 rifles

Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents arrested two suspected gun smugglers and seized four AK-47 assault rifles and six ammunition clips Wednesday.
The arrests and seizure were made after agents stopped an Isuzu Rodeo east of Wellton on Interstate 8. Record checks on the driver, a United States citizen, reportedly showed an extensive criminal history and an extraditable warrant out of Maricopa County.
The passenger, and owner of the vehicle, is a citizen of Mexico who had obtained Permanent Legal Resident status to legally enter the U.S.
The men reportedly said they were traveling to Mexico. With the help of a working dog, agents searched the vehicle and allegedly found four hidden assault rifles and six empty rifle magazines.
Both men, along with the weapons, were turned over to state authorities for prosecution. The vehicle was seized by the Border Patrol.
